WhatsApp Begins Testing ‘Favourites’ Chat Filter on Latest Beta Version: How it Works

June 2, 2024

WhatsApp for Android is developing a new feature that will enable users to add and filter their favorite chats for easier access. This feature is currently under development and is being rolled out to testers registered through the Google Play Beta Program. Once available in beta, these users will be able to see and test the feature. Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly testing filters for unread messages and group chats to display specific conversations.

Feature tracker WABetaInfo identified the new feature in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.12.7. This feature allows users to organize their favorite chats using a new filter, which will be particularly beneficial for users who receive numerous messages and have difficulty locating their regular contacts. While WhatsApp currently has a chat pinning feature, it only allows up to three pinned chats.

WhatsApp for Android is testing a new “Favorites” filter to help users easily access important chats. This feature is being rolled out to beta testers registered through the Google Play Beta Program. The latest beta version, 2.24.12.7, includes this feature spotted by WABetaInfo.

The publication shared a screenshot showing four new filters at the top of the screen, just below the WhatsApp logo: All, Unread, Groups, and the newly added Favorites filter. This feature aims to simplify finding frequently contacted people and groups. Users can manually add contacts to the Favorites list by clicking an “Add to Favorites” option at the bottom. Users can also remove and reorder chats according to their preferences. Since this feature is in beta, not all testers may see it immediately, but it should be available in the coming days.

Additionally, WhatsApp has increased the maximum duration for voice messages in Status updates from 30 seconds to one minute for beta testers.
